If you're studying in Australia on a student visa — or about to arrive — the short answer on UWA scholarship stacking is this: the UWA International Student Award generally cannot be held at the same time as other UWA tuition-fee reductions or academic scholarships. There is one exception, and one rule that decides what you actually receive if you qualify for more than one.

Can the UWA International Student Award be stacked with other UWA scholarships?

Because Global Excellence can reach 20%, a student who qualifies for both will usually receive Global Excellence rather than the 10% International Student Award. Both exclude Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Dental Medicine, Doctor of Optometry, Juris Doctor, and undergraduate offers that include an assured pathway to MD/DMD.

The same "higher-value, not combined" logic applies across the UWA international scholarship family: the Global Alumni Pathway Scholarship (10% off PG for UWA bachelor graduates or former study-abroad/exchange students) and the Vice-Chancellors' Scholarships (for China: 100% ×2 and 50% ×2 per year, plus Indonesia/Malaysia/Vietnam quotas; competitive and limited). If you are already in Australia, or on a pathway course

For students already studying in Australia on a subclass 500 visa (or another visa with study rights), or those on pathway arrangements, the picture is the same: the International Student Award does not combine with other UWA awards except the UWA English Language Award. If you already hold or are offered a different UWA scholarship, the higher-value rule applies.

Eligibility at a glance

Selection is based on academic achievement (an equivalent ATAR or WAM as determined by UWA; predicted ATAR only in exceptional cases), and the number of awards is set by UWA Admissions each year. There is no separate application — you are automatically assessed when you apply for admission, and the award appears in your offer letter. You must accept within 30 days of the offer.

On China: the eligible list names "China." Whether a Hong Kong, Macau, or Taiwan passport qualifies is not stated in the terms — check directly with UWA.

How long the award lasts, and what changes if you transfer or reduce load

To keep the award you must meet enrolment eligibility, make satisfactory progress, maintain a WAM of 60, and confirm eligibility twice a year. Suspension is only possible after the first result release, for a maximum of 2 semesters, with committee approval.
