Already in Australia? How UNSW College（新南威尔士大学学院）Applied Degrees Fit Diploma and Certificate IV Holders
Explains how UNSW College Applied Degrees accept Australian diploma, Certificate IV and HSC holders already in Australia, with entry rules, fees and key dates.
If you are already in Australia on a diploma, a Certificate IV or an Australian HSC, the new UNSW College Applied Degrees have entry routes built around qualifications you may already hold. The three bachelor programs — two in information technology and one in business — are AQF level 7 degrees awarded by UNSW College, an institute of higher education owned and backed by UNSW. Students study on the Kensington campus and can use UNSW facilities, clubs and societies.
This article covers the onshore entry routes, the English test rules that apply to each, how the degrees are structured, and what the published fees and dates look like for 2026 and 2027.
What the Applied Degrees are, and who awards them
The three programs are:
- Bachelor of Applied Business (Business Management) — CRICOS 120245C
- Bachelor of Information Technology (Cyber Defence and Networking) — CRICOS 120253C
- Bachelor of Information Technology (Software Development) — CRICOS 120244D
Each is a three-year bachelor degree at AQF level 7, delivered over six semesters and 12 eight-week terms. The award is issued by UNSW College, not by UNSW Sydney. UNSW owns and backs the college, and the launch materials describe the degrees as applied in structure, with project-based assessment and no traditional final exams. Class sizes are around 20 students, compared with a typical 25 to 35 in a traditional degree.
The Software Development CRICOS code is worth noting. The launch presentation printed 120243E, but that code belongs to the Associate Degree of Information Technology (Software Development) on the CRICOS register. The correct bachelor code is 120244D.
Entry routes for applicants already in Australia
The entry requirements below are the published minimums to apply. They are not admission guarantees, and the provider’s own slides carry the note: “Summary data only; please check our website for full details.” The official UNSW College entry requirements page governs.

For a diploma holder, the key point is the 50% threshold. You do not need to have finished the diploma; you need to have completed at least half of it. If that diploma was completed outside Australia, you will also need an English test. If you are mid-diploma in Australia, the English requirement does not appear in the published table for that row — but the official page is the place to confirm your individual situation.
For a Certificate IV holder, the requirement is a completed Certificate IV in a relevant discipline, plus a formal English test. The published table does not define “relevant”, so check with the provider before applying.
For an Australian HSC holder, the route is Band 3 in at least three relevant HSC subjects. No English test is listed for this row, on the basis that the HSC itself is the evidence of English.
English test scores that are accepted
If you need an English test, the published minimums are:

You must meet both the overall score and the individual component requirements. The table also accepts Go8 Foundation English at C+ and a Non-Go8 Australian Foundation Studies Program at 70%.
These are the same score bands as UNSW direct entry at the 6.5/6.0 level, per the UNSW College entry requirements page.
How the three years are structured
The degrees run on a 144-unit structure, with 48 units per year. Each year has eight courses, two per eight-week term. Assessment is project-based, with no traditional final exams.
Work-integrated learning is built into the degree. The Industry Project / Industry Placement is worth 12 units and can be taken in Year 2 or Year 3, at the student’s choice. The CRICOS register records a work component of 20 hours per week over 8 weeks, for a total of 160 hours. The launch deck describes it as “work integrated learning… which includes up to 160 hours of experience.” The live course pages list four delivery options: self-sourced placements, UNSW College-facilitated opportunities, work-based experiences, and industry or project-based alternatives.
The final year also includes an 8-week Capstone Project, in Business or IT depending on the degree.
For the two IT degrees, the industry alignment includes AWS Academy, Microsoft Learn for Educators, CompTIA Academic Partner Program, and (ISC)². The live pages state that eligible students receive one funded certification exam per relevant course completion.
What the degrees do not promise
The launch materials cite two market figures: a forecast demand for up to 400,000 additional IT workers in Australia by 2030, and a claim that only 42% of employers believe business graduates have sufficient workplace skills. These appear in the provider’s launch presentation without a cited origin. Treat them as the provider’s own framing, not independent research or government data.
Nothing in the published materials promises that a student who leaves early receives a diploma or associate degree. The CRICOS register shows that associate degree courses exist in the same subject lines — for example, the Associate Degree of Information Technology (Software Development), 120243E, runs for 104 weeks — and the launch deck describes Year 1 as diploma level, Year 2 as associate degree level and Year 3 as bachelor level. But the provider has not published a commitment that early exit earns you the lower award. Do not assume it.
Fees for 2026 and 2027
The published tuition figure is A$34,080 per year for 2026, which gives a three-year tuition total of A$102,240. The CRICOS register additionally records A$1,000 of non-tuition fees, for an estimated total cost of A$103,240.
The provider states that 2027 tuition fees are still to be updated, and that fees are reviewed annually. The launch deck footnote adds that fees are based on typical full-time enrolment, may vary depending on courses chosen, and are subject to change.
Scholarships: what is published, and where
The Applied Leadership Award appears only in the provider’s August 2026 launch presentation. It is described as worth up to A$10,000 per annum, awarded on merit, with a limited number available. The application asks for a 500-word personal statement on your motivation for studying a UNSW College Applied Degree, plus a resume or CV. There is no page for this award on the provider’s website. Confirm the details with the provider before relying on them.
The UNSW College Family Discount needs care. The launch presentation lists it on the Applied Degrees scholarship slide, but the official Family Discount page states the discount applies to Foundation Studies or Diploma programs, excludes the Diploma of Business and the Commerce Foundation streams, and is valid only for students commencing in the 2026 intake. That page does not mention Applied Degrees. The two sources do not line up, so confirm the scope with the provider before assuming an Applied Degree student qualifies.
Key dates for 2027
The first international intake is Term 1, 2027, with classes starting 1 March 2027. New students commence in Terms 1 and 4. The published key dates are:

Orientation for Term 1, 2027 is 25 February 2027. For Term 4, 2027, the key dates page lists 15 October 2027, although the launch presentation shows 14 October on one slide. The class start date of 18 October 2027 is consistent across both.
English language pathway before classes start
If you need to strengthen your English before the degree begins, the provider offers an online English course, UEEC10, which you can study from home. The published packages are:

The launch deck notes that the gap between the English course and the degree start leaves time to apply for a visa and book accommodation and flights. That is the provider’s own framing; it is not visa advice.
What to check before you apply
The entry requirements published in the launch deck are a summary. The official UNSW College entry requirements page is the governing document, and the provider’s own slides direct you there for full details.
If you are applying on a diploma, confirm that your diploma is at AQF level 5 and that your completed units meet the 50% threshold. If you are applying on a Certificate IV, confirm that your discipline counts as relevant. If your qualification was completed outside Australia, plan for a formal English test unless you hold one of the accepted alternatives.
The degrees are awarded by UNSW College, not by UNSW Sydney. That distinction matters for how you describe the qualification to employers and to any authority in your home country. Nothing in the published materials addresses whether the qualification can be certified by overseas authorities, and this article does not speculate on that.
